INTERESTED IN A CUSTOM PORTRAIT?

Commissioned portraits are a unique way to add an heirloom to your family. Your portrait will be painted on a museum grade watercolor Aquaboard, with a 1.5” deep wooden cradle (side profile) and protected with an archival varnish. This varnish allows the painting to be hung as-is without the protection of glass. Portraits typically take 2 months to complete, but if you have a specific date needed, I will certainly see what I can do to accommodate it. Below is an outline of the commissioning process.

STEP #1

CHOOSE YOUR PHOTO(S)

Since I work from reference photos, the selection is one of the most important. Choose 3-5 of your favorite photos.

Things to consider:

*Is the photo in high resolution and clearly shows details of the face?

*Natural light is usually best, whether through a window or outdoors.

*How’s the angle? You may need to get down at eye level with your subject to get an interesting composition.

STEP #2

CHOOSE YOUR SIZE

Current sizes are for a single portrait (head/shoulders), simple background on a 1.5” wooden cradle without a frame.

8 x 8 in 8 x 10 in

12 x 12 in 11 x 14 in

STEP #3

CONNECT WITH ME

Once you have dug up 3-5 high resolution photos and have decided on your size, click the ‘REQUEST NOW’ link below. Please include any special information regarding your portrait such as special deadlines (typical turn around time is 2 months), and if there are a few pieces on my website that give the ‘vibe’ you are looking for in your portrait.

Email Checklist:

  • 3 - 5 photos

  • Your Full Name & Phone Number

  • Subject’s Name

  • Size of Portrait

  • Special information

STEP #4

CONFIRMATION

I will crop the photo to illustrate the composition that will be painted. I will send this to you for your approval. Once I receive the green light, I will draft up the contract, photo release, and invoice for a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure your commission slot and estimated completion date.

(Please Note: Your commission will not be considered “booked” until the contract, photo release and 50% non-refundable deposit are received.)

STEP #5

LET THE PAINTING BEGIN!

I will begin the fun of painting layer after layer of watercolor onto the clayboard to create your portrait.

STEP #6

FINE-TUNING & WRAP-UP

Upon completion of your portrait, I will send you a photo to let me know if there are any areas that may need more attention. Once you are 100% happy, I will seal the painting with 4+ coats of UV protectant varnish and place a wire hangar on the back. A Certificate of Authenticity will be issued, and I will professionally wrap your painting to prepare for delivery. I will send you a second invoice for the balance due. Once payment is received, your painting will be shipped and I will send you the tracking number.
